Built in a week: An unconventional bet that beat the benchmark

The Problem

Usage drops right when the product needs to stay relevant

Most lawyers who used Jus IA all year had never once seen that back: nothing in the product reflected the value they'd actually gotten out of it. That mattered most at year-end, when legal work slows down and people are most likely to forget the product exists at all, against a churn rate hovering around 17%.

The Process

Using a seasonal court recess to try something legal tech doesn't usually do

The opportunity, and what I built

Legal work slows down at end of the year, and that's exactly when people stop needing Jus IA and forget it exists, even the ones who'd used it all year. Instead of just reminding active users the product was there, I designed a personalized, shareable retrospective built to reinforce something they'd never been shown directly, that the product had delivered real value over the year, while testing whether a social-native, "look what I did" format could generate the kind of buzz that's uncommon in legal tech. I designed the retrospective itself, a personalized visual summary covering conversation and message volume, estimated time saved, and a behavior-driven "archetype" (strategist, expert, deep-diver, detective, perfectionist), plus the landing page, and handed off to Engineering for build. The whole thing shipped in about a week. Distribution split three ways: CX ran email, Corporate Communications ran social, and my scope was the product experience underneath all three channels, not the campaign itself.

How AI shaped it

Engineering was leaning on AI just as heavily as I was to hit the timeframe. I used Figma Make, wired into our design system libraries, to generate first-pass layout hypotheses instead of starting from a blank canvas, one of the earlier times our team leaned on an AI tool for a full production flow rather than just exploration. I used Gemini to generate the archetype portrait images. Neither output shipped as-is: Figma Make hallucinated components and inconsistent details, and most of the actual design time went into craft, cleaning up and simplifying what the AI produced until it looked like a real Jus IA product instead of a first draft.

The Results

Above benchmark, built in a week

The campaign delivered a 40.4% open rate and a 4.6% CTR, with an 11.3% CTOR. Category benchmark for this type of send typically runs 20-30% open and 1-3% CTR; this cleared it comfortably, and both numbers ran well above what the rest of Jus IA's own relationship calendar usually pulled.

What stood out

An experience with no direct functional payoff still out-performed nearly every educational or product email sent that year. The clearest takeaway wasn't about the product itself, it was about process: built in about a week, with AI folded into nearly every step, it still landed well above both the internal and market benchmark. Speed didn't cost the result.
